This Hortus Botanicus photoshoot in Amsterdam was one that I enjoyed very much. In October I had the honor to meet Sabrina and Ka Yip at the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam. The weather didn’t look good all week, so instead of shooting at an outdoor location, we decided to shoot at the Hortus Botanicus.
Sabrina and Ka Yip were amazing to work with. They were very relaxed in front of the camera and very good with posing. I loved directing them because they made every pose look so natural. And of course, they are very photogenic as well.
Sabrina and Ka Yip got married a few months before, but were gifted a photo session with me. They love taking photos together and this Hortus Botanicus photoshoot was an excuse to wear their wedding outfits again. I love this idea, because there’s no pressure for all of us. For me this was a super fun way to get creative. I enjoyed getting to know them better as well during our time together.
For photographers: During this shoot I used the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens on my Nikon D810 for the first time. I normally only use prime lenses, but this photoshoot was a chance for me to try out something different. I really like how versatile a 24-70mm is. You can get so many different shots with it! I used this digital setup alongside my film camera Pentax 645N. I shot it on Fuji Pro400H film rolls. The photos below are a mix of film and digital.
I can highly recommend doing a photoshoot at Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam, especially with the alternating weather in the Netherlands. If you’re looking for a photographer to do a photoshoot at the Hortus, let me know!
